What's New

Didn't mean to get this ambitious. Did it anyway.

Built by one person who got tired of surface-level everything: swipe, match, forget, repeat.

Real talk: Nocturne started as a dating app. Turns out we had a vision for more than just a spooky Tinder for people who love niche genres.

So here's your own corner of it, to do with what you please: your music, your bands, your gear, your people, all in one place. Matching is still here. It's just not the only thing anymore.

This isn't like the other platforms. It's built to connect with people organically, without the mindless doomscrolling and material fakery that exists everywhere else. Lots of different ways to connect and express yourself, share freely whatever you want, without worrying about getting your account suspended for misinterpreted song lyrics.

We're not Tom from MySpace. We won't ghost you, and we're not selling out. You're stuck with us.

The feed

Late September 2026

Home is a feed now

Backstage posts, profile updates, stories and what people are up to now live in one place: your Home tab. Following shows people you follow. Everyone shows the whole community.

You can like, reply to, and share posts. Sharing puts it in front of your followers, with a comment if you want one. Stories can be shared too.

When you post, pick where it goes: your profile, Backstage, or both.

Nocturne Radio is still on Home. Tap the bar to tuck it away, and it keeps playing while you scroll.

More in the feed

Shows people are going to, records added to Vinyl Shelves, new members, new listings and Signal Boosts show up between posts. If you'd rather keep your activity to yourself, turn off Show my activity in feeds in your profile. Anything you post still shows.

Profiles

Your background image now covers your whole profile. Pick how it fills the page: Fill, Wallpaper, or Tile.

Updates on your profile can be liked and replied to.

Share cards work in the Android app now.

Fixes

Turning off Recently played now actually hides it, and your Spotify listening follows your privacy settings everywhere. The Back button in the app closes whatever's open instead of kicking you to Home.

The big one

September 2026

Nocturne Messenger

Remember coming home from school, logging onto AIM, and seeing who was online? I missed that. So I built it: a buddy list, instant messages, and chat rooms, with the same login you already have. The first time you sign in, pick a screen name. Use your real name or a nickname. That's what buddies see.

Only your buddies can message you. No cold DMs from strangers, ever. Want to lurk? Go Invisible and you look offline to everyone. The rooms are sorted by scene: The Pit, Goth & Darkwave, Metal, Punk, Hardcore, and Shows & Meetups for finding a gig buddy. You can also start your own for your city, your band, whatever.

Met someone here you actually like? A match, a show friend, someone to split a ride with? Add each other on the Messenger instead of handing out your number or your Instagram. Keep it as close or as casual as you want, and remove or block anytime. A lot of us are done with Facebook for this stuff. This is the alternative.

Get it on Android from the Messenger page, or just open messenger.nocturne-eternal.com on your computer.

Notifications that don't snitch

The apps can ping you for new messages, buddy requests, matches, and @mentions. The lock screen only ever says who it's from, never what they said. Your phone, your business.

Nocturne is becoming an app

Nocturne itself is an Android app now. Grab it from nocturne-eternal.com/app (Google Play is coming too). It has a proper bottom tab bar, so it feels like an app and not a website squeezed onto your phone.

One thing you'll notice: you can't pay for anything inside the app. That's on purpose. Google takes a cut of anything sold inside an app, and I'd rather keep $6.98 a year exactly $6.98 than raise it to cover their fee. Memberships live on the website, and the app just lets you in.

Your data is yours

There's a real Privacy page now that says in plain English what I collect and who can see it. And you can delete your account yourself, anytime, from your Account page. It's instant, it takes everything with it, and it cancels your membership. No emailing me and waiting. No guilt trip.

How the free trial works now

Every new account still gets 30 days of everything, and the first 100 of you are still free forever. After a trial ends, matching, messages, and Backstage pause until you join. Everything else stays open, and your profile doesn't go anywhere.

You'll get an email a few days before your trial ends, and one when it does. No surprise charges, ever.

Live Right Now

  • Nocturne Messenger. Buddy list, instant messages, and chat rooms, AIM-style. Only buddies can message you, Invisible mode, photos, videos, and links. On Android and in your browser.
  • Delete Your Account. One button on your Account page. Instant, permanent, takes everything with it.
  • Trial Reminders. An email before your free trial ends and one when it does, so nothing sneaks up on you.
  • Nocturne Radio. A curated jukebox playing right on the homepage. No login required to listen.
  • Real Shows, Multiple Sources. Ticketmaster and SeatGeek, merged into one feed, plus promoters listing DIY gigs directly through The Circuit.
  • Ride & Ticket Coordination. Mark yourself as going to a show, then flag that you've got an extra ticket or need a ride, right on that show's page.
  • Backstage, Reimagined. The community board, not your feed, everyone's. Posts show up as real polaroids, take likes and replies, and can carry an image or link preview.
  • Browse Free. Create a profile and look around without verifying anything. We only ask once you're ready to swipe, post, or message.
  • The Ledger. A public guestbook on your page: friends and matches can leave you a message anyone visiting can see, separate from your private inbox.
  • Notifications. So you actually know when someone likes your post, replies, or leaves you something in The Ledger.
  • Your Own Player. Host your own playlist right on your profile, skinned exactly how you want it.
  • Vinyl Shelf. Link a Discogs collection to show the records you actually own, not what a streaming service says you listen to.
  • Spotify Connect. Show live "Now Playing" and top artists on your profile, with your own privacy dial: everyone, matches only, or nobody.
  • The Circuit. Independent promoters and small venues list real shows directly, no waiting on a booker to add them alongside the big platforms.
  • The Collective. Record shops, labels, studios, and venues get a free listing, submitted by verified users. No middleman.
  • Your Own Link. Claim a custom profile URL, all yours.
  • Signal Boost. Attach a Band or Collective listing to your own page to help it get seen. Shows up on both pages at once, no bidding, no algorithm.
  • Post Updates. Your page isn't static; say something whenever you want.
  • Epitaphs. A single shared poem anyone can add a word to or rearrange. Nothing resets on a timer; it's archived periodically and a new one begins.
  • Auto Match & Browse. Turn on Auto Match and anyone can send a message request off something you posted, no swiping needed. Browse lets people find you the same way from a filterable list. Nothing opens until you approve it.
  • Share Your Scene. Generate a shareable card for your profile, Founding Member badge, or Epitaphs board.
  • The Pulse. Follow people, bands, promoters, and shops, and see it all in one feed. Opt-in and entirely follow-based, nothing shows up you didn't choose to see.
  • Stories. A 24-hour photo or video on your profile, a Band, The Circuit, or The Collective. Tap the glowing ring on a photo to watch, like, react, or reply. No aggregated feed on purpose; you only see one by visiting that profile directly.
  • Saved Searches. Set up Discover's filters the way you like them, save them, and load them back anytime instead of rebuilding them every visit.

That's it. That's the update.
